Editorial Team - Responsabilities and good practices

Director 

The director is responsible for the publication of the journal, for directing the activities of the Editorial Committee, and representing officially and legally the journal.

 

Editor-in-chief/Assigned Editors

The editor-in-chief is in charge of directing the creative and execution processes of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá), as well as of proposing actions to improve the journal.

It is the editor-in-chief who, at first instance, reads and accepts the submitted manuscripts that fulfill the Author Guidelines. Then, he or she classifies the articles, examining the relevance of the content for the established sections, the investigative support, abstract structure and keywords, as well as the presentation and internal coherence of the text.

For support and orientation, the editor-in-chief will rely on the section editors (researchers assigned to a research line associated with each of the sections of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá), and members of the research groups of the Faculty of Design).

The editor-in-chief will follow the “Code of conduct and best practice. Guidelines for journal editors” (COPE, 2011).

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the scientific and editorial quality of the journal.
  • Preside and direct the Editorial Committee, the Scientific Committee, and the Editorial Board.
  • Propose ordinary and extraordinary meetings to the Editorial Committee, the Scientific Committee, and the Research and Publication Committee.
  • Report to the Editorial Committee about the results of the call for papers and reception of articles.
  • Receive and manage the articles submitted to the journal.
  • Propose article reviewers to the Editorial Committee.
  • Maintain a database of reviewers and contact them.
  • Send the author a letter of acceptance or rejection, in accordance with the peer review concept, and request adjustments to the manuscript, if there is any.
  • Establish communication with all the participants involved in the publication.
  • Ensure necessary confidentiality in evaluation processes.
  • Guarantee that all published articles have been peer reviewed by qualified evaluators.
  • Through the Publishing Office of the Universidad Católica de Colombia, supervise the editorial process and support the preparation and production of digital and print materials.
  • Coordinate and support initiatives to instruct researchers on topics about article presentation, publication ethics, and all related topics.
  • Coordinate every aspect of the website, and monitor the exchange and subscription of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá).
  • Maintain the journal’s visibility in databases where it is indexed, and search for indexing options in new abstracting and indexing systems.
  • Present semiannual management reports to the Council of the Faculty of Design.

 

Editorial Board

It monitors the fulfillment of objectives of the journal, editorial and scientific policies, and publication standards; it establishes measures to facilitate and increase the added and differential value of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá). It defines the structure of the journal, as well as proposes authors and topics for each volume.

 

Responsibilities

  • Appoint the editor-in-chief of the journal and introduce him or her to the Faculty Council for approval and appointment.
  • Establish the editorial policy in coordination with the editor-in-chief and the Editorial Committee.
  • Support the coordination of the journal.

 

Editorial Committee

It is responsible for the published content, in accordance with the institutional and particular policies of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá) regarding academic, scientific, and disciplinary aspects.

The Committee is constituted by national or international professionals of recognized trajectory in each of the established sections of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá). Members must be active researchers with recent publications in journals and/or books.

The Committee is composed of prominent researchers at the University, as well as from other national and international institutions. There will be a balance among the sections of the journal.

The Editorial Committee will be evaluated and renewed every two years; members will have the possibility to stay, be excluded, or abdicate.

Committee membership is honorary and it does not generate any labor or contractual relationship with the Universidad Católica de Colombia.

 

Responsibilities

 Establish the editorial policies of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá), in accordance with the editorial policies of the Universidad Católica de Colombia.

  • Define editorial criteria in collaboration with the editor-in-chief.
  • Maintain the journal’s scientific and technical quality, in accordance with the requirements of current abstracting and indexing systems.
  • Propose appropriate reviewers for each established section of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá) .
  • Ensure compliance with international ethical norms regarding scientific publications.
  • Designate associate editors and/or section editors for particular cases.

 

Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá) acts as an advisory body to the Editorial Committee and it is composed of representatives of the national and international scientific and academic community.

Committee members will be selected from candidates presented to the Editorial Board and the editor-in-chief, and ratified by the journal’s Editorial Committee.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the Editorial Committee and the editor-in-chief in formulate editorial policies.
  • Advise the Editorial Committee on aspects related to the quality of information and editorial content of the journal.
  • Advise the Editorial Committee and the editor-in-chief on the definition of the journal’s scientific quality standards.
  • Propose strategies for the development of editorial and quality policies in accordance with the journal’s field of activity, and in relation to its established sections.
  • Invite prominent members of the national and international community to publish their work in Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá).
  • Actively participate in the search for articles and authors for each of the journal’s sections.
  • Promote the dissemination of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá) in national and international academic circles.
  • Participate as peer reviewers in the evaluation of manuscripts submitted for publication, as well as proposing other experts as academic reviewers.

 

Peer Reviewers

They are experts in the topics and sections of Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá), with research experience and publications.

Participation in Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá) is through direct invitation to evaluate a maximum of two articles per volume.

Whenever possible, reviewers will be renewed in each issue of the journal and can be invited again after a year. The editor-in-chief will evaluate peer reviewers in order to assess compliance with established deadlines and the quality of the review.

Acting as peer reviewer does not generate any labor or contractual relationship with the Universidad Católica de Colombia, the Faculty of Design, or Revista de Arquitectura (Bogotá).

Peer reviewers will follow the “COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers” (COPE, 2013).

Reviewers can reject the invitation if they consider there could be a personal or professional conflict of interests (See example RevArq FP06 CDI).

 

Responsibilities

  • Review articles and issue observations, recommendations, and a concept on their publication.
  • Evaluate the structure of the article, the fulfillment of author guidelines, and coherence among the parts of the text.
  • Issue a concept with precision on the scientific quality of the article subjected to evaluation.
  • Verify the fulfillment of the declared ethical principles and monitor compliance with the ethical conducts associated with scientific production.
  • If necessary, identify and propose publications or authors that are considered relevant and were not cited by the author.
  • Meet the established deadlines for article reviewing.
  • Keep anonymity and confidentiality about the work, until the article is published inRevista de Arquitectura (Bogotá).
  • Respect copyright norms.
  • Provide personal and academic information requested by the journal and some of the abstracting and indexing systems.
